Date

Location
LAHRI, University of Leeds, seminar room 3.01

This presentation will provide an overview of Quechua language rights and cultural heritage through a case study of Amantani’s youth development programmes in Cusco, Peru. Amantani is a UK-registered, Peruvian non-profit that works to defend the rights of indigenous young people in the Andes and Amazon regions of Peru. Through participatory visual media, intercultural academic programmes and an ethical trade project with Quechua artisans, Amantani seeks to embed the Andean principle of ayni, or reciprocity. This presentation will include the screening of a short film from Amantani’s Meet My World, Tiqsimuyuyta Riqsinki, video project and provide opportunities to discuss social justice, youth work and further education access for indigenous youth in Peru and across Latin America. Also, don’t miss the chance to buy your own handwoven bracelet made by a Quechua artisan!

Catriona Spaven-Donn is Fundraising Manager for Amantani. She previously completed an MPhil in Latin American Studies at the University of Cambridge and is currently studying Outdoor Environmental Education while establishing her own arts and agroecology project in the Maya Ixil Region of Guatemala.
