Online, URL TBD

Set in the national and international framework of heritage and a fast-changing social, cultural, and economic landscape, the talk uses two case studies to illustrate the on-the-ground heritage practice in China. The first case study looks at the heritage-making process with massive political and cultural undertaking that has transformed the vernacular architecture tulou to UNESCO World Heritage in southeast China. The second case study examines the commercial basket as a form of community living culture that has not been transformed into official heritage in a Dong community in southwest China.
