Roadblock Sound System

We are Roadblock Sound System, a bike powered solidarity sound system providing green power and a vibrant engagement infrastructure to support grassroots activists and community organisations. In doing this, we disseminate concepts in green tech and renewable energy and also give musicians and artists a local and sustainable platform to showcase their talents.

Roadblock's roots are in climate activism, born out of a need to have sustainable off grid power for public events and protests. The gropu has an open collaborative structure and brings together mechanical and sound engineers, artists, musicians, poets, and outreach specialists to create its programme of events. These range from local cycling events, farmers markets, park picnics, and apple days to city wide projects such as Leeds Pride, Light Night, Cop 26 and the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon. We have to date collaborated with over 30 organisations including Leeds City Council, Trade Union Congress, youth Strike 4, Climate, Reclaim  the Night, Meanwood Valley Urban Farm, HEART, Pedallers' Arms, and the Friends of Becketts Park.

Our approach is about creating spectacle and holding a space to foster curiosity and exchange of ideas. We bring individuals together to connect and bond over music and the shared joy of the event as a whole. We are bright and bold and like to stand out. We believe in cultivating a positive vision for the future, mitigating and adapting to counterbalance the stress, relentless fear, and negativity that can build up in communities.
